As part of its corporate social responsibility PanAfrican Energy Tanzania Ltd has handed over 400m/- worth two modern residential buildings for Nangurukuru community dispensary in Kilwa District, Lindi Region in a bid to compliment government efforts to improve health delivery in the community.
The donation follows a completion of the dispensary to which, the energy firm had donated 198.911m/-.
The structures in the natural-gas rich- region will accommodate at least four families of medical professionals to be easily accessible at the centre especially during emergency hours.
Speaking yesterday during the handover ceremony to the district council, Abdallah Ulega, Kilwa District Commissioner said; “the support is a life-saving. I wish to convey my gratitude to the management of PanAfrican Energy, for not only coming forward and being our development partner in this Community, but for being able to execute the projects and going an extra mile in each of the projects they have carried out for the community.”
He assured the buildings shall be utilised as planed to improve health service delivery in the area.
The state of the art dispensary was constructed to improve access to outpatient, maternal and child health facilities, and a modern maternity wing.
Andrew Kashangaki PanAfrican Energy representative emphasised the project was part of a portfolio of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives the company carries out in the Kilwa District, focused on the critical areas of health and education.
“The aim is to improve people’s livelihoods, as well as to strengthen our relationship with the community that surrounds us,” he added.
The dispensary has brought significant relief to the people of Nangurukuru who previously had to travel long distances for treatment.
Now, with the addition of the two residential buildings, medical professionals can be accommodated within the facility and the dispensary can remain open for longer hours.
This will ensure that services are available to a far greater number of people. It is anticipated that more than 8,000 residents of Nangurukuru and the surrounding areas will now be able to access the excellent healthcare the dispensary can offer.
So far PanAfrican Energy has spent over 1.4 bn/- on social programmes inTanzania and has committed to spend an additional 550 m/- this year to support the community in Kilwa District.
