CUF women wing urges fellows to register for polls

The Civic United Front Women Wing Vice Chairman, Severina Mwijage said women participation in the voters’ registration book is important if they are to participate in the October general elections.

Severina was speaking in Dar es Salaam recently during the party’s Women Wing national conference saying refraining from registration will give an advantage to the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).

She said women in rural areas should know their rights on taking part in the elections because the majority still lacked the knowledge of their political rights.

“The seven days period offered by the government to update the voters register is not enough. We want to be given the task ourselves to register women who are mostly at home doing domestic work,” he said.

She also insisted that her wing does not support the newly passed proposed constitution because it does not meet the demands of the majority citizens but sides with the ruling party’s.

“The government needs to be sincere and remove the national emblem on the proposed constitution and replace it with that of the ruling party because the proposed constitution favours them” she said.

Women Wing Head of Election Unit, Blandina Mwasabiche said the conference aimed at educating women to participate in the coming general election, constitution referendum as well as abuse of women during polls considering that the proposed constitution draft lacks public views.
